5 Ways To Organize Your Home For Back To School
It’s that time of year yet again, it’s back to school time and that means it’s time to get our homes in order for as many productive days as possible. When August hits it’s go time and having the kiddos in school, work schedules, after school activities, sports and let’s not forget our own personal extracurricular activities leads to a lot of running around. August is a perfect time to get our homes prepared for this season. Here are 5 ways to prepare your home for a productive back to school season.
1. The first step to getting organized for back to school (and work) is to think about what would make life run more smoothly and implement it.
Do you need a meal planning calendar, do you need a system for paperwork such as things that the kids need to have signed? This is a good time to process what will make for seamless days. Below are just a few more things to take into consideration as well.
– Organizing your closets.
– Set up a shared family calendar.
– Check emergency kits & create a safety kit for your kids. This is a great time to update your records for them.
Keep an up-to-date description and important information about your child handy in case of an incident. Be sure to add a GPS tracker such as Life360 to their phones.
2. Let’s jump right into cleaning and organizing the kitchen.
The kitchen cleanup should look like…
Scrubbing out the microwave, deep cleaning the stovetop and oven, cleaning the garbage disposal (don’t forget to Plink your sink.) Also, clear the clutter from the fridge and pantry to make for easy meal prepping. Please donate any unwanted and unexpired foods. This is a great time to stock up on your meal prep containers.
3. Organize your mudroom
This is the first place in the home upon arrival and the last place for departure so you want to make this part of your home functional. Start by adding things such as hooks, shoe bins, and benches, maybe a charging station, key hooks, post office bin, umbrella storage, message center with a chalkboard and family calendar, and don’t forget a mirror for the last minute check before exiting the home. Having your mud room organized and stocked could help you be more efficient for the day.
4. Organize your garage.
The same as the mud room you want to organize your garage. The garage often becomes a dumping ground, we don’t want to do that anymore. Begin by taking inventory of things that you have. Also put together three piles, keep, toss, and donate, you can even host a garage sale to get rid of things and make a little moolah.
5. Clean and store your summer gear.
Now that the summer season is coming to an end it’s time to put away the summer gear. If the garage is the place that you do that you can set up zones to make things more efficient. The sones could be outdoor activities, such as biking, you could have a pool section, a section for everything that has to do with your car, and a tool section of course. For more space, always use your vertical space. Think of adding cabinets or shelves along the wall.
Bonus. Test and change detector batteries.
Here you can find a downloadable checklist for you to print off to make sure that all tasks are complete.
Having an organized home will make mornings, and evenings so much more productive, as the school season brings about the hustle and bustle of life. Take a weekend to get your home in order and watch as the stress of everyday life melts away.
